Important astrology events in 2022
Mercury retrograde
When: January 14 to February 3, 2022
May 10 to June 2, 2022
September 9 to October 2, 2022
December 29, 2022 to January 18, 2023
Mercury retrograde 2022 has unsurprisingly gotten a bad rep. Instead of the usual three dosages, we're being treated to an extra spoonful this year, much to everyone's objection.
But there's no need to panic—Mercury retrograde is actually going to be less invasive, according to astrologer Narayana Montúfar. Since the planet is shifting away from air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) and moving towards Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), we can expect the intensity to wear off.
"It'll be a little more down to earth and there will be less overthinking," Montúfar says.
Narayana Montúfar is an astrologer and an expert in the astrological studies of the Moon and the author of Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power.(opens in new tab)She was one of Medium.com’s Authority Magazine 2020’s Strong Female Leadersand one of Vogue’s 13 Astrologers to Follow in 2021.
Use this planet's backwards motion as an opportunity.
"Mercury retrograde is really great to help us think how we view certain aspects of our lives, and then more importantly, how we can edit them to be a bit more productive," says astrologer Liz Simmons.
Liz is a self-taught astrologer and tarot reader who blends Hellenistic and modern techniques that utilizes the tropical zodiac, Placidus House system and Whole House system. You can book Liz for live astrology readings, tarot readings and written readings, among other services.
Jupiter in Pisces
When: January 1 to May 9, 2022
The first part of the year could very much be about giving, according to Simmons, and it's all thanks to Jupiter's placement in Pisces.
"I think that's going to be that precursor for all of us to shift our perception to be more spiritually attuned and more compassionate than being selfish with what we do have," she says.
Simmons continues: "It's going to be a really beautiful transit that breaks up the seriousness of how we transform our values and restructure our finances."
Pluto return
When: February 20, 2022
The United States can expect a brand-new astrological event in 2022: Pluto's return, which only happens once every 248 years.
Although it might take quite a bit of time for this planet to achieve one orbit, it'll pack a punch once it's complete.
"For many countries, the Pluto return signifies a period of upheaval, radical reassessment and change," says astrologer Stephanie Campos-Powell. "It has marked the end of empires, but also new forms of government and structure. There is no going back to how it once was, Pluto destroys what no longer serves us and creates a new path forward."
This notion might seem a bit overwhelming, to say the least, but think of it as an opportunity to get rid of things in our lives that are not suitable for us.
Stephanie is an astrologer, witch and healer. You can catch her writing in Cosmopolitan, Well + Good, Vogue and other publications.
Stellium in Pisces
When: April 26, 2022
This stellium—when three-plus planets are grouped together in the same sign—is particularly exciting for matters of the heart, which just so happens to be the love horoscope prediction we were waiting for!
"I'm thinking that's going to be really good for love and romance," Montúfar says. "It's going to be a huge day for commitment, people getting engaged or even married around that time."
All of the cosmos are flocking to Pisces, quite literally: Jupiter, Neptune, Venus, the Moon, Mars and asteroid Juno. Phew!
It's an especially pleasurable time that will also focus on creativity, travel and the things in life that bring us the most happiness.
"It's a really good lineup for following one's dreams," Montúfar adds.
Eclipses
When: April 30, 2022 (Partial Solar Eclipse)
May 15-16, 2022 (Total Lunar Eclipse)
October 25, 2022 (Partial Solar Eclipse)
November 7-8, 2022 (Total Lunar Eclipse)
The eclipse axis is shifting to Taurus and Scorpio, and Simmons believes we're going to start rethinking what's truly important to us as a result.
"It's a whole year of figuring out what we value the most and what's worth that commitment," she says. "I feel like when we look towards lunation, the eclipses are going to take precedence because it's going to be very, very different than what we experienced last year."
During these astrological happenings, expect to examine your values in a new light.
Mars Retrograde
When: October 30, 2022
At the height of spooky season, the universe will urge us to take a step back. (Though, by all means, go all out with those Halloween celebrations.)
Mars' backward rotation is a time for reexamination, particularly within our careers, as the planet rules drive and ambition.
"It's about working less and really revisiting what we truly desire," Montúfar says. "It's a huge period of rethinking the way we're going after our goals: Do you really want that job? Do you really want that person?"
Although the focus might be heavily skewed towards our work lives, we can also expect there to be a bit of upheaval in our love lives. Mars also brings repression to the surface, so if there's something you've been holding back from your S.O., address it before things boil over.
North Node's Uranus conjunction
When: Mid-July until the end of 2022
During the summer, the North Node, a point of fate, will conjoin exactly with Uranus, which rules change, freedom and liberation.
"We can expect some shocking or even innovative events or developments to play out on the global stage," Campos-Powell predicts.
Now more than ever, this energy will carry us into 2023, and it's more important than ever to be willing to accept new developments that are underway.
"Holding onto past situations of crisis is just going to prevent us from moving forward, so it's important to embrace change," Montúfar recommends.
Chiron retrograde
When: July 19 to December 23, 2022
Chiron offers a great way to get rid of the emotional baggage we've been carrying. Although it may seem like a daunting transit, it will force us to finally deal with our issues and clear them out once and for all.
"Chiron has a higher purpose than just making you wade through your trauma," says Nebula's astrologer, Patrick Price."Ultimately, you should expect a lot of healing and power you didn’t know you held on the other side."
You know what they say: "No rain, no flowers."
The August new moon
When: August 27, 2022
Sure the supermoons are behind us, but we're particularly looking forward to this lunation in the midst of Virgo season.
We might be feeling a tad restless, and unsure of what to do with ourselves. It is going to be a dramatic wind-down after the bold Leo season, after all. However, this celestial happening will cause us to make fresh starts and rethink our routines, which is a nice setup for a new season. (Hello autumn equinox!)
"I can see people being really inspired to suddenly take charge of their lives, organize things and really get a good handle of anything that might've been chaotic at this point in life," says astrologer Noush.
