Is Gossip Girl actually coming back? What's really going on with the rumored reboot after that Insta post
XOXO, not so much...
If you're a lover of all things 2000s nostalgia, the latest Gossip Girl Instagram posts have no doubt sent you reeling—but what on earth is actually happening?
In case you missed it, the official Insta account for Gossip Girl posted a rather cryptic post that sent the internet into a frenzy of reunion and reboot rumors—and no, not concerning the recent HBO Gossip Girl reboot but rather involving the OG Upper East-siders.
Fans were convinced that something was in the works, where some of our favorite iconic TV characters like Serena Van Der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald and Dan Humphrey would either reunite or reprise their roles. Alas though, it appears we were played—here's what went down...
What really happened on the Gossip Girl Instagram?
Well, while we know how to watch Gossip Girl, we can't help but reminisce over the good ol' days and get irrationally excited over any sort of news about the iconic series.
So, when the official Insta account posted the following on Wednesday, May 17, 2023: "Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you.", fans across the globe freaked!
The comment section was flooded with excited confusion and speculation, with one fan writing: "WHAT ARE YALL SAYING RIGHT NOW?"
While another commented: "WHAT IS HAPPENING"

Alas though, it seems we might have been played, as just a few hours later the Gossip Girl then posted a second post, revealing that the original 2007 series will be coming to Max (aka HBO Max) on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
The post, featuring a video of Chuck and Blair read: "One of our most iconic love stories. ❤️ You can stream your favorite #GossipGirl moments when HBO Max becomes Max on May 23. 💋 Learn more at the link in bio. #StreamonMax."
Stans of the show were understandably heartbroken, "….this is what you brought us here for? Much disappointment. No wow," one wrote.
As another said: "I knew it was some foolery going on."
Right now, it does appear that the show's debut on Max might have been the big announcement but you never know, maybe HBO has another surprise for us in store. As far as we're concerned though, we're just happy we can stream the show 24/7, so that's something!

Before working for Future Publishing’s Lifestyle News team, she worked in the Ad production team. Here she wrote and designed adverts on all sorts of things, which then went into print magazines across all genres. Now, when she isn’t writing articles on celebs, fashion trends, or the newest shows on Netflix, you can find her drinking copious cups of coffee, drawing and probably online shopping.
