Our September cosmic calendar puts a huge emphasis on relationships
Here's what the universe is trying to teach us
If you've taken a peek at September's cosmic calendar, you've noticed plenty of astrology events floating about.
From the autumnal equinox to the infamous Mercury retrograde, the new season brings plenty of energy and various opportunities to get ourselves organized, particularly when it comes to our connection with others—and not just the romantic kind.
"This September echoes part of the astrology of 2022, which is about relationships," says Narayana Montúfar. "It’s going to be more about changes in relationships, people coming and going."
Three particular transits will spotlight our partnerships and teach us something different. Here's what the universe is trying to get through to us.
Narayana Montúfar is an astrologer and an expert in the astrological studies of the Moon and the author of Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power. She was one of Medium.com’s Authority Magazine 2020’s Strong Female Leaders and one of Vogue’s 13 Astrologers to Follow in 2021.
September cosmic calendar
1. Mercury retrograde in Libra
Everyone's favorite astrological happening is back beginning September 9, right before the next full moon, so it's a real potent time. The first half of Mercury's backwards spin, until the 22nd of the month, will be in Libra.
"This is going to be about putting our relationships under the microscope, we’re going to be seeing and weighing which relationships are working, which are not working and we’re going to be learning how to address our needs so we are getting what we want," Montúfar notes.
No need to go into panic mode! Stop thinking about breaking up during Mercury retrograde. Use this as an opportunity to make adjustments where need be. And remember, we're not just talking about your interactions with your S.O.—this could relate to a professional or platonic connection in your life.
When Mercury goes retrograde in Virgo afterwards until October 2, we'll want to be mindful of how we talk to others and not be impulsive. Really think before you speak.
2. Venus in Virgo
Venus is going to be in Virgo from September 4 to September...and this isn't necessarily a sign that the planet likes much. We'll be working a little harder than usual to feel that spark of happiness, but Montúfar insists there's a positive reason for this happening.
"It really pulls on the concept that relationships are mirrors," she says. "Relationships take work, relationships take a dialogue and sincerity. But a big part of that is how we are loving ourselves. You can't really attract the love you want if you're not loving yourself enough."
And if we're going to give ourselves the proper TLC, embrace that dose of confidence and tend to your needs with a few self-care day ideas—you deserve it!
3. Venus squaring Mars
"Venus and Mars are legendary cosmic lovers they literally say a lot about pleasure, sex, relationships," Montúfar says.
Although the transit takes place on the 16th, you can expect to feel the effects from the 8th to the 22nd. During this time there will be a pull between masculine and feminine energies, and we could experience some sexual tension...which just might be what couples need if they're feeling stale.
Overall, these three events are not looking to incite fear, they're looking to make us think and reassess. What better gift for astrology fans that deep reflection?
"The main message from the universe is being ok with this part of our lives changing and transforming," Montúfar says. There are relationships that no longer resonate in your life and that’s OK, but the truth is, that’s how it is. New ones are on the way."
