Alice + Olivia just rolled out a Gossip Girl-inspired collection for Fashion Week
Make like Blair Waldorf with Alice + Olivia's glitzy, glamorous new fall 2021 collection
We can't wait for all of the sartorial greatness guaranteed to grace our screens with the new Gossip Girl reboot, but luckily we have the new Alice + Olivia collection to tide us over until then.
Styled in collaboration by A+O creative director Stacey Bendet and the CW show's own costume designer Eric Daman, the Gossip Girl-inspired Fall/Winter 2021 collection was unveiled at the digitalized New York Fashion Week, in a video presentation at the former Upper East Side residence of one Blair Waldorf herself.
Alas, B's killer capsule wardrobe line was not part of the chic showing, but some school-girl houndstooth prints, pops of faux-fur, low-rise trousers and regal, Bridgerton-worthy lace details and pearls definitely were. (Sorry Harry Styles, Blair Waldorf was definitely rocking pearls first.)
And while it wouldn't be a Gossip Girl-inspired fashion collection without copious amounts of classic tweed, Bendet added a touch of Jenny Humphrey punk styling to the overall preppy proceedings, using eyeliner-heavy beauty looks, dark plaids and glam-rock metallics to give the line some downtown, Little J edge.
New York City, where Gossip Girl was famously set and the Alice + Olivia brand originated, served as inspiration not only for the video presentation but the collection itself. The brand's team said in a statement: "Fall 2021 feels like a new season in so many ways, so to celebrate Stacey Bendet made this collection an ode to New York City and its enduring, iconic style. Where better to stage this fete than in an Upper East Side townhouse, where uptown revels with downtown, and excitement meets sophistication."
Unfortunately, the Alice + Olivia collection won't drop until later this year. Ditto the new reboot, an HBO Max series with 10 hour-long episodes voiced by O.G. narrator Kristen Bell and sporting a new generation of stylish students. (As for the original cast, series star Blake Lively has debunked any rumors of her involvement in the upcoming series, but other cast members have said they'd be down to cameo.)
In the meantime, feast your eyes on the fashions below. After all, in the words of Queen B herself: "Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It's movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we'd like to be. Just like your scarf shows the world you'd like to be a used car salesman." Ha!
