Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey's new rom-com role revealed
Give us all the Anthony content!
It seems that Viscount, Anthony Bridgerton aka Jonathan Bailey has landed himself a brand new rom-com role alongside Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones—and it looks pretty wild.
Bailey is best known for his role in Bridgerton and stealing all of our hearts with his ‘bane of my existence’ line—and he is now reportedly set to star in a brand new movie alongside a rather star-studded cast! Sadly though, there will be no dashing regency-attire or passion-fueled horse riding...
According to Deadline, the new film ‘Maria’ will see Bailey play one of the love interests (naturally) of Jones’ character Maria. The film will also feature Jason Isaacs (who plays Lucious Malfoy in Harry Potter) starring as her father.
It has been described as a rom-com, but from what we can tell from the synopsis, we’re in for quite the dramatic ride!

Who does Jonathan Bailey play in 'Maria'?
Bailey will play the character of ‘Eddy,’ Maria’s boyfriend who she is struggling to commit to, despite his love and devotion to her.
While you might be thinking this film is setting up the classic ‘she realizes what she was looking for was there all along’ type of thing, just wait…
What's the plot of 'Maria'?
As mentioned, we will meet Maria (Jones) while she is struggling with her reality—from her age to her father’s indifference and running from her boyfriend Eddy’s love.
So when she meets a handsome stranger, who goes by the name of Raffy, at her father’s wedding, she sees an opportunity to feel young and free again—only one problem, he’s now her new step-brother. Awkward!
Matters are then made worse when Maria finds out that her father has been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
The film is being directed by Simon Amstell, the creative mind behind Benjamin, who has said about the new movie: “I’m incredibly excited to begin shooting Maria this year with Felicity Jones. Our hope is that making a film about our culture’s fear of aging and death will be an absolute sensation.”
No word yet on the release date, but we'll be keeping our ears to the ground!
