Gigi Hadid, Kristen Stewart and more epic hair transformations at the Met Gala 2021
This year's Gigi Hadid Met Gala look included a shocking shift from her signature blonde locks—and she wasn't the only one
From Billie Eilish's bleach-blonde Marilyn moment to Tracee Ellis Ross's Edna-Mode-but-make-it-chic bob to Megan Fox's Bettie Page clip-on bangs, the Met Gala 2021 had plenty of head-turning hairdos featured on the red carpet.
But while some celebrities merely played with styles, some really committed to the look by changing up their hair color entirely. From supermodel Gigi Hadid to Spencer star Kristen Stewart, here are the Met Gala hair-color moments that made us gasp from surprise.

1. Gigi Hadid Met Gala makeover: Seeing red
Though known for her long, blonde locks, Gigi Hadid has been experimenting with red hair dye throughout the past year, though the result has been more of a ginger-biscuit situation.
For the Met Gala, the model turned the crimson up to eleven, sporting a headful of Jessica Rabbit-worthy scarlet strands styled into a retro ponytail fastened with a crystal Prada brooch.
2. Hailee Steinfeld: blondes have more fun
The usually-brunette beauty—who will next be seen this November in the new Hawkeye series on Disney Plus—was nearly unrecognizable on this year's Met Gala red carpet, thanks to her platinum blonde bob cut and matching bleached eyebrows.
3. Storm Reid: pixie dream girl
Usually one to sport her brunette curls in long braids or a natural style, Euphoria star Storm Reid drastically changed things up by pairing her Prada with an adorable pixie cut in a honey-blonde hue. The soft, short waves were the perfect frame to let her makeup—including that on-brand elaborate eye look—catch the spotlight.
4. Kristen Stewart: Strawberry blonde forever
Kristen Stewart has already been the talk of the town thanks to her performance as Princess Diana in the upcoming Spencer, but her new hair look will surely give fans much to gab over, too.
Stewart plays with her hairstyle and color often, so seeing her pop up with newly-dyed strawberry-blonde strands recently wasn't entirely a surprise. For the Met Gala, Stewart was serving modern-day rockabilly vibes with a high wavy pony and pin-up bangs.
