Did Kim Kardashian ruin Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress?
Sources say Kim Kardashian ruins Marilyn Monroe dress after Met Gala appearance, but is it true?
They say life is too short to wear boring clothes, but sometimes it pays to be safe.
Kim Kardashian opted to wear the most iconic—and most expensive—dress in history to the 2022 Met Gala, none other than Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" Jean Louis rhinestone dress.
One of the most memorable Met Gala fashion moments to date was also one of its most controversial, especially now that sources allege the reality star damaged the famous garment.
Kim Kardashian ruins Marilyn Monroe dress: is it true?
As you might recall, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson turned heads upon their arrival to fashion's biggest night not just because they're the couple no one saw coming, but because the SKIMS founder was wearing an actual Marilyn Monroe dress (though she later changed into a replica).
The outfit selection was problematic from the get-go. Historians said no one other than Monroe should step foot inside that dress. The health-conscious among us were not thrilled to hear Kardashian boast about her two-week 16-pound weight drop to fit into it.
Despite it all, Ripley's Believe It Or Not!, which houses the sparkly number, stated that a lot of thought went into the prep work.
"Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history," the museum wrote on Instagram. "With input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority."
And Kim K had no problem adhering to the guidelines.

But a little over a month later, a tweet surfaced on Pop Crave with a before and after shot of the dress, stating that there are tears and rhinestones are missing. Naturally, the post saw viral fame.
Can you spot a difference in the rhinestone dress? Do you think this is the work of Photoshop, or is Kardashian actually responsible for a little wear and tear?

Neither Kardashian nor Ripley's have addressed the speculations, but time will tell how it all unfolds, and we'll be sure to update you with any new revelations.
For those who've asked how much do Met Gala dresses cost, prices typically hover between $5,000 to $35,000 (not including accessories). "Happy Birthday, Mr. President"? Oh, that's about $4.8 million.
