Meet the wolf cut—the hottest hairstyle trend taking over TikTok

It's not your average mullet

Our obsession with nostalgia knows no bounds, we’re all about the '70s fashion trends like crochet tops and '90s blowout—and now there’s a new '80s inspired hair trend in town, the wolf cut.

The wolf cut might sound completely new and a bit bizarre but it’s actually a modern twist on an '80s era mullet. Now before you stop reading because how can mullets be trendy again, we can make a good case for the wolf cut.

It features the same party-in-the-back, business-up-front look, but it's more gentle and choppy. The top which has layers cut into it—unlike the bowl-like shape of a mullet—perfectly frames your face and gives your hair instant volume. The shagginess is effortlessly cool and super low maintenance—the perfect cut for a self-proclaimed lazy girl.

If you need evidence of this style done really well, look no further than singer Miley Cyrus. Cyrus has been rocking a platinum blonde, wolf cut/mullet for some time and is no doubt a huge inspiration for this hair trend.

The best part of this style is that it looks good on every hair color and every hair thickness. For those with thick hair, it’s the perfect way to thin it out and for those with thin hair, it’s a great way to add volume and shape. Plus when it grows out it just leaves you with some gorgeous layers—win-win.

It’s definitely this season's cool-girl look, and before you worry about ending up with a full-blown mullet, a wolf cut doesn’t have to be extreme—the goal is choppy, a bit disheveled, and like you sort of just woke up—but in a cool way.

TikTok is, as always, the best place for inspiration. Here we can see user @daniellemarcan getting her mid-length hair cut into the wolf cut. She is left with an edgy look without really losing much of the length.

Danielle got her cut done at London's Patrizia Manias which is swiftly becoming London's go-to for the trend.

They say the wolf cut can be, "as extreme or as subtle as you’d like, and similar to its name, it's meant to be a fusion of wild sophistication."

Whether you have long or short hair, you’ll still be able to curl, straighten and tie your hair up, it just means you can bust out this wolfy look whenever.
